NEXT FESTIVAL OF CABO DE CRUZ, WILL SUM TWENTY TWO YEARS OF THESE MEETINGS.
The Galician Federation of Maritime and River Culture (FGCMF) held every two years since 1993, GALICIAN TRADITIONAL BOATS FESTIVAL between their associations. In this event, are invited all associations inside the FGCMF and related entities, both in Galicia and Portugal, Ireland, France, Basque Country, Catalonia, Andalusia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands, and other individuals and / or institutions.
In these twenty years, eleven meetings organized by FGCMF: Ribeira 1993 Coruxo 1995, Grove 1997 Rianxo 1999 Poio 2001 Illa 2003 Cambados 2005 Ferrol 2007, Muros 2009, Carril 2011 and 2013 O Freixo. Now is called The XIIº at the port of Cabo de Cruzs on the Council of Boiro.
The meeting consists of a high concentration of boats representing the Galician traditional maritime heritage, and other geographic areas, accompanied by recreational and cultural events, seminars, conference, seminars, exhibitions, publications, traditional music and dance, crafts, etc.
The event itself, is object, highlight the richness of the Galician sea and river heritage, and the need to preserve it. Moreover, the meetings serve to showcase the work within the heritage restoration by the associations, and at the same time, is a dynamic social activity and recreation, making it an attractive holiday for citizens and visitors the town that hosts the meeting.
It should be emphasized one aspect that is not always perceived in relation to the work that has been unfolding for FGCMF respect Galician Maritime Heritage in general and of the Traditional Boats in particular. We refer to potential as a dynamic element of maritime communities.
Encounters energize sectors like wooden boats, the sails, the chandlery, craft, and especially to the extent that it is to protect, preserve and disseminate the Maritime Heritage Gallego, are to enhance the attraction of coastal communities helping sustainable tourism, as recommended by several ongoing projects of the European Community.
